Meeting Status - Wootten

Rooms

Omni Shoreham

We have

Rooms

Capitol

This is still scheduled 22 Sept 5:30 pm. Still need to decide what we need in terms of connectivity and contrast that with what is availablve.

CIW

We have this for 7 Oct and 8 Oct 1999.

MAC Meeting

At a room in Omni Shoreham on 9 Oct 1999.

Schedule

Invitations to go out tomorrow.

Antenna Fatigue Cycles

Peter asked us to recommend a spec for this--this is cycles which move the antenna across large arcs on the sky, presumably major source changes or calibration on planet cycles. Harvey has offered to apply the GBT experience and suggest a spec.

MMA Costing Exercise - Wootten

Last week we discussed the second generation 183 GHz phase correction system. Bob has a Gantt chart which has us designing this by next Jan with prototype and demonstration by 2001/2002 Jan. I don't know where we could test this but I need to come up with a cost. My plan is to assume a single channel (cooled?) HFET with the 32 channel backend Harris is building. Do Simon or Min know how much this might cost. I'll get a backend cost estimate from Harris if I can. Maybe Webber can estimate how much a contract to assemble an army of these would be. I'll try to get from Douglas Bock or Jack Welch a cost for the two channel amplitude cal, then guesstimate a contract cost for 36 of those. We need estimates of manpower needs during construction. Presumably there will be some ImCal work going on at the prototype antenna, and also imaging studies, phase correction algorithm studies, etc.

Here are the tasks and schedules:

Action Items 8Mar99

UPCOMING REVIEW: On or before 31 May 1999 we review results from the OVRO and BIMA phase correction systems.

DECISION: 183 GHz or 22 GHz phase correction?

DECISION: Is a nutating secondary necessary?

DECISION: What is the effect of 1/f noise in the HEMT amplifiers of SIS receivers upon our ability to combine total power and interferometric images into a faithful representation of the sky?

MEETINGS: MAC meeting 14 Apr 1999 at noon. ------
