BIWEEKLY CALENDAR OF THE ALMA PROJECT at NRAO March 15 - 28, 2004 ******************************** THIS BIWEEK *********************************** Victor Gasho has been appointed North American Lead for the ALMA Antenna IPT. The ALMA Band 9 Preliminary Design Review will be held at the lead institute for its design and production for ALMA: NOVA, in Groningen, Netherlands on 18-19 March 2004. This band covers the frequency range 602-720 GHz in a double sideband mixer design with a 4-12 GHz IF bandwidth. The final design should fulfill ALMA requirements: Trx < 168 K DSB (over 80 % of full RF band). Information on the ALMA Workshop at University of Maryland 14-15 May 2004 may be found at www.nrao.edu/almaworkshop/ ******************************************************************************* General Happenings Chajnantor People can now work from the ALMA Camp at the site of the future OSF. Within a month, those who work there may also sleep there. The first JAO/IPT telecon from the ALMA Camp occurred 15 March. ATF The evaluation receivers will be mounted on the AEC antenna this week to begin the process of radiometric evaluation, which continues on the VertexRSI antenna. NTC Preparations are under way for the preliminary design review of the Band 6 cartridge in early April. The first correlator wafer run was successful and shortly there will be 17,000 correlator chips arriving for inclusion in the ALMA correlator.
