BIWEEKLY CALENDAR OF THE ALMA PROJECT at NRAO June 6, 2005 - June 20, 2005 ******************************** THIS FORTNIGHT********************************* Fred Lo, Director of NRAO, announced that Adrian Russell is being named as North American Project Director for ALMA at the NRAO. As such, he will have oversight responsibility for both the NA ALMA Project Office for ALMA construction, for which he remains NA Project Manager, and the NA ALMA Science Center while ALMA is still under construction. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Antony Davies, ALMA Controller, announced the appointment of Stefan Michalski to the role of Planner/Scheduler for the ALMA Project, based in Charlottesville as part of the NRAO Program Office. Stefan joins us with significant experience from two challenging roles: the oil industry, where he has been working as a planner/scheduler for major maintenance projects, and the nuclear power industry where he was in a similar role supporting major decommissioning and spent fuel storage projects. Stefan will join the team in Charlottesville immediately after the July 4th Holiday Weekend; his email and telephone contact details will be passed out as soon as they are available. Stefan will report to A. Authorization was given by the ESO Finance Council for road construction above 23 km; expected start is 1 July. There are 27 persons working at the site. AOS: Construction expected to commence August 2005. ATF: Testing of new ALMA Control Software installation continues. AOC: Computing IPT CDR3 under way. Andreas Wicenec visiting. NTC: The first prototype tunable filter bank card has been received and is under test in the test fixture. The ACA Correlator review in Tokyo is reported to have gone very well. NAASC: Planning for the workshop "From Z to A: Z-Machines to ALMA" continues; Science Organizing Committee formed.
