Abstract:

The Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) currently possesses a large store of legacy phenomenology data produced under several different ground and space-based experiment programs. Using this data for analysis purposes is often difficult due to the disparate physical locations of the data centers that control the compiled databases. We have created a prototype system that utilizes World Wide Web (WWW) interfaces such as Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) and Java to visualize and select data products. A particular aspect of our system that enhances it beyond a simple distributed database interface is that it provides access to the Synthetic Scene Generation Model (SSGM). We have developed a Web-based Scenario Construction Tool (WSCT) that generates a Scenario Definition File (SDF) used by SSGM to create synthetic scene(s). The SDF can be constructed either from extracted scenario metadata via database queries or user input. The WSCT uses VRML and Java interfaces to enable the analyst to visualize and manipulate scenario components. The resultant SSGM output can then be compared to the experiment data.
