Abstract:

We will demonstrate the new AXAF X-ray Calibration Facility (XRCF) analysis environment. This environment provides AXAF scientists with a uniform interface to all of the X-Windows applications, Open IRAF tools, IRAF and PROS tasks, FTOOLS, and documentation facilities necessary to calibrate and test the AXAF flight instruments. The XRCF environment integrates these heterogeneous software packages and documents into a seamless whole. The major components of this environment are contained in the SAO R&D software suite and consist of ASSIST, SAOtng, XDir, XPA, Xkib, and the SAO Parameter Interface. All data analysis functionality is provided by existing IRAF and PROS tasks, Open IRAF tools, or FTOOLS. Although these tasks or tools are designed to run stand-alone within their own analysis environment, the XRCF system fully integrates them using ASSIST as a uniform layered graphical interface. Interprocess communication and control are provide by XPA and Xkib. SAOtng provides for all visualization functionality, while XDir provides file browsing with user-defined actions on different file types. The SAO Parameter Interface provides, among other things, Open IRAF compatibility within the Unix environment.
