Abstract:

The advent of powerful PC's running Linux is presenting an alternative to the traditional workstation for many sorts of Astronomical Data Analysis. The more affordable and personal nature of the majority of these PCs may lead to the extension of the workplace to home or whilst travelling. Other Astronomical Environments (for example IRAF, AIPS and MIDAS) are already available in Linux versions. The UK Starlink Software has also now become available and is being issued on CD-ROM. This will be demonstrated and details will be available of technical obstacles overcome during the port together with relative performance figures comparing PCs with more traditional workstations.
