Howdy. Please change our entry on your pages to have the
following descriptive text. BTW, please note that the Image
Database may fit under a "pictures" category, as it includes
objects down to below mag 20.

The APS Catalog of the POSS I contains millions of entries
for stars and galaxies, and the corresponding Image Database
contains their pixels and more. The data behind the Object Catalog
and Image Database are generated from digitized Palomar Observatory Sky Survey
plates. Object Catalog entries include calibrated magnitudes in two colors,
positions to 0.2 arcseconds, confidence measures on neural
network image classifications, colors, and various other
useful parameters.

Howdy. Please add the following to your Pretty Pictures

A searchable database of images scanned from the Palomar

the APS Object Catalog, providing both pixels and calibrated

The Automated Plate Scanner Project provides the APS Catalog

data are derived from APS digitization of Palomar Observatory

of objects.

to submit the data I get the message:

	fopen("/fits_1/ftp/fits/www/astroweb/inp_incoming.html","a") failed

I have tried to report this error at least twice (e-mail to dwells@nrao.edu)
and have never received a response. My URL data has never been accepted
by the page.

Dear Sake,

offhand I'd like to suggest that you contribute the extra URLs that you
found to the AstroWeb database.

The other comment that I have is that hand editing will assure homogeneity
and quality, but is laborious and may be overwhelming, particularly given
the the dynamic nature of the network information. I think it is much
easier to make a database so good and complete that people feel a need to
be present, and then to provide forms to be filled in by those people,
which guarantee the homogeneity of the information bits.

Regards
Hans-Martin

I added SAI, but not Crimean Observatory
since there was nothing new at that side.

The Description of SAI includes the text
"Crimean Observatory".

I would be happy to add Crimean Observatory as
a 'resource' if you insist.

Bob,
thank you for the message. You're right, We have established Internet
connection at our Crimean Observatory only a month ago and there are
nothing new :-)

Dear Astroweb Pretty-picture list maintainer,
please consider to add the following WebPage to your list:
<a href="http://www.seds.org/messier/">Messier Pages at SEDS</a>
Images and information for each of the 110 Deep-Sky objects
in Messier's catalog, including historical, observational,
and modern scientific stuff, together with a big image
collection.
- thanks for taking the time to consider,

hi -

About a week ago I submitted a new resource record for
the Michigan-Dartmouth-MIT Observatory to the AstroWeb database
using the HTML forms. Alas, there was a strange error message
at the very end which leads me to suspect that my entry
may not have made it into the system.

How can I check on this? Do you have any record of this
resource entry? I have not seen it in the main database or
in the recently submitted resource records.

thanks,

Previously users had to make submissions to
pages at nrao.edu. Don was the only one who
could easily process these and he does have
a day job.

The astroweb-cvs.html page at STScI has been
in use for a sufficiently long time to warrant
public access. This will allow any of us to
process user submissions.

I have changed the submission links at STScI
to:

<h1>Contributions</h1>
You can use HTML forms to: <UL>
<LI><A HREF="http://www.stsci.edu/astroweb/astroweb-cvs.html">
Submit an addition or change to the Astroweb database</A>
<LI><A HREF="http://www.stsci.edu/astroweb/incoming/">
Review pending submissions</A>
</UL>
or send EMail to <P>
<PRE> <B>astroweb@nrao.edu</B></PRE>
 <P>

I strongly recommend that you change your own pages accordingly.

In view of the increased risk, I have reenabled the domain
checking.

The current values are:

set awnode(adorf) eso.org
set awnode(anton) anu.edu.au
set awnode(dwells) fits.cv.nrao.edu
set awnode(egret) u-strasbg.fr
set awnode(fmurtagh) eso.org
set awnode(heck) cdsxb6.u-strasbg.fr
set awnode(ponz) vilspa.esa.es
set awnode(paoli) fcaglp.unlp.edu.ar
set awnode(jackson) stsci.edu

If you have trouble using the form because of an error
message like:

	ERROR - Illegal Remote Host

please let me know.

To whom it may concern:

I have submitted my page for addition to AstroWeb in early December, and
have myself verified that I sent the correct address. I have noticed that
the page is still under "Recently recieved applications" and was
wondering if there has been some sort of problem that has prohibited the
addition of any other pages, or if mine has just fallen through the cracks.

Thank you very much for your time
