An overview of the recently initiated Center for Chemistry of the Universe will be provided. The Center, funded by the Chemistry Division of the National Science Foundation, brings together research groups with backgrounds in chemical reaction dynamics and some of the top astrochemistry research groups in the country to forge a collaboration to understand the mechanistic chemistry of the interstellar medium. The research goals of the Center will be highlighted. Center activities in education and public outreach will also be described.
