Butler wrote: "i've been having a good exchange with jack on the absolute calibration of MWC349. he's using the same horn he used for jupiter, and they re-did jupiter, to make sure that the things were still 'working' (that they got the same answer as in the previous experiment). they've just completed the jupiter reduction, and indeed got the same answer, so are about to get into the MWC349 data. this is all at 30 GHz. he intends to try to build a similar horn for 90 GHz, but has not done so, and i suspect that it's going to be a while before that gets done (it's not the building of the horn that is difficult, but rather the precise measurement of the gain pattern, which they already had for the 30 GHz horn [well, they had it for a duplicate which was measured in the late '60's]). as an aside, we (rick perley and i) did MWC349 in our last VLA flux density run, so this should be a very good cross-comparison..."
