Mar 5-11th Meeting on Cosmic Masers (Rio de Janeiro)

April 5-6 ACC meeting in Tokyo

Proposed face-to-face meeting agenda items from Ewine, not in priority order necessarily:

  • ACA design + simulations
  • toward a three-way partnership
  • phase II management structure and process for implementation
  • configurations, site issues
  • receivers: report from Tucson PDR + production planning
  • WVRs (not much news to report?)
  • (future) correlator (not too long and not too many people...)
  • software (we never had an in-depth discussion on this)
  • status report on antennae (can be brief?)
  • outreach (can be brief, but we need to spend 15 minutes on this)
  • polarization....

Wolfgang has proposed he report on (as above):

  • - give a summary of the front end PDR in Tucson and an overview of the present design status (>= 30 min)
  • - present ideas and conclusions from the receiver production meeting at ESO (>= 20 min)

    (2) Connection of SSR Chair to ASAC - Proposal from Glendenning and Raffi

Given the importance of software to ALMA, and the impact of ASAC decisions on software plans, I propose that we add the SSR chair - Robert Lucas - to the ASAC, perhaps in an ex-officio capacity. This would give a direct "conduit" between the SSR and the ASAC. While this request was prompted by a particular event (the incorrect reporting of the software group's opinion about fringe tracking during OTF interferometry), I think it's a good idea on general principles. Robert agrees, although he's able to restrain his enthusiasm about the prospect of another phone meeting.

    (3) Project Book - Emerson

There is an entry for all chapters in the project book. Please see The Project Book and comment. Chapter 5, on receivers, front end and WVR is of special interest.

    (4)Calibration - Guilloteau

Please read the draft of an ALMA memo on receiver calibration by Guilloteau and Moreno.

(5)The 3-way ALMA project: Budget Boundary Constraints -- Brown

Please read the document circulated to the asac list on 18 January 2001 by Carolyn White.

    (6) Next Teleconference - After face-to-face meeting?

---New time? On Mondays Christine Wilson is unavailable from 10:30-11:30 EST and 1:30-2:30 EST. Is Friday at 1515UT agreeable? According to one calculation, the time zones relevant are now (1515 UT):

  • 0715 am PST
  • 1015 am EST
  • 1115 am Chilean time
  • 1515 am UT
  • 1615 am CET
  • 2415 am Japan

so this change would affect our three west coast members and Japan (where the meeting falls on Saturday) most severely Other possibilities include different days.
