A wide-field HI mosaic

An enormous amount of data has been generated by the Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA survey. I have taken several hundred data cubes reduced by survey participants and utilized the libraries provided by the Montage project. The result is an image that shows a 1500 square degree wide-field Aitoff projection of high galactic latitude neutral hydrogen observed with the ALFA multi-beam receiver. The mosaic is made from 1200 images into a stunning 5.5 million pixel tri-color panorama shown at the top of the page. The data include a spectral range from -50 < Vlsr < +50 km/s.

The map at full resolution can be seen here.
