12 Meter Telescope - Unassigned Telescope Time
After normal proposals are reviewed and scheduled, there are inevitable
blocks of unassigned time because of scheduling constraints (such as LST
ranges not matching, etc.). To make best use of the telescope during
these periods, we invite requests for observations.
To request unassigned time:
- Address your request to the
telescope scheduler;
- For existing (continuuing) projects, outline why (equipment failure,
weather, etc.) more time is needed;
- For new projects, include a brief scientific justification and source
list;
- Request a specific block of unassigned time on a specific
date.
The scheduling committee will review these requests as they arrive. Time
assignments normally will be confirmed about two weeks in advance of the
observations. In cases of conflicting requests, we will give preference
to requests for makeup time for previously scheduled programs that have
lost observing time because of equipment failure. In case of emergency
technical work on the telescope, time assignments are subject to
cancellation as a last resort. While we will endeavor to accommodate as
many requests as possible, we cannot guarantee any will be scheduled.
