FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT: FIFTH ANNUAL JANSKY SYMPOSIUM
*******************************************************************
In conjunction with this year's NRAO Karl G. Jansky Lecture, NRAO & UVa
will be hosting the Fifth Annual Jansky Research Symposium on Friday,
November 3 in the NRAO auditorium.

This year's Jansky Prize Lecture will take place on November 3 at 7:30pm
in Gilmer Hall on the UVa grounds. Prof. V. Radhakrishnan, former director
of the Raman Research Institute of India, will present his talk entitled
"Astronomy's Devices" in a lecture open to the general public.

We will hold our one-day Jansky Symposium during the morning and afternoon
preceding the Prize Lecture. It will be comprised of short (10-12 minute)
astronomical research presentations by faculty, staff, and graduate
students from NRAO (Charlottesville & Green Bank), and UVa. A barbeque
will be held at NRAO on Friday afternoon immediately following the
Symposium.

If you would like to speak at the Jansky Symposium, please e-mail
Lynn Matthews (lmatthew@nrao.edu) with the title of your proposed talk,
noting any restrictions on the time of day you can speak.

The Jansky Symposium is a unique chance for all of us to learn more
about the diverse array of projects going on locally at NRAO and UVa.
We therefore hope you will consider presenting a short talk at this
year's Symposium.
