Stupid SSH Tricks
Introduction
- What it is:
- A potential drop-in replacement for, or alternative to, the
Berkeley "r" commands:
rlogin,
rsh, and
rcp.
- Remote login, file transfer, and shell commands over a secure,
encrypted connection. Also X and other tunneling.
- A way of reducing exposure of passwords; cannot easily be
"sniffed" (unlike
ftp or
telnet or
rlogin).
- Sorta freely available (Version 1): www.ssh.org (or free: OpenSSH?);
SecureCRT for Wintel ($) or TTSSH
(free). Web version at MindTerm.
- What it is NOT:
- A substitute for poor security planning.
- The ultimate answer to your problems.
