Abstract:

Linux (http://www.ssc.com/linux/) is a freely available implementation of the POSIX standard (Unix by any other name) for Intel (386/486/Pentium) and other computer systems. AIPS, IRAF, and other systems now run under Linux ( http://bima.astro.umd.edu/nemo/linuxastro/). The aims of this BoF are to discuss the role of Linux in Astronomy, both past and future. Among the possible topics are:
