NVSS Survey (VLA D array) Catalog Available (9/95) A preliminary release of the NRAO/VLA Sky Survey source catalog is now available. The present catalog covers approximately one fifth of the final area of the survey and contains about 400,000 sources. Sources are added to the catalog as new images are produced. The NVSS is a survey of the sky north of declination -40 deg at 1.4 GHz with a resolution (FWHM) of 45" and a limiting peak surface brightness of 2.5 mJy/Beam. This survey, made with the VLA in the "D" configuration, is producing images of both total intensity and linear polarization. A source catalog consisting of Gaussian fit parameters is being prepared. The images and source catalog are available via anonymous ftp (URL ftp://nvss.nrao.edu/pub/nvss/). In addition, catalog search software is available. There is a WWW interface (URL http://www.cv.nrao.edu/NVSS/NVSS.html) which is suitable for searches for individual fields. In Charlottesville a browser, NVSSlist, is installed under SunOS (and should also work under Solaris) which allows more extensive searches. Fields centered on a list of positions can be searched. NVSSlist has on-line documentation as well as a more extensive description in /opt/local/share/lib/NVSSlist.hlp.
