Critical Documents for the System Design Review This morning there were 106 documents listed in the System Design Review folder on almaedm, which is restricted in access. However, Christoph Haupt provided a list of the most critical items which I have edited here for the ASAC. Science The Science Requirements is in almaedm at http://tinyurl.com/2zko2 and the calibration documents are available as pdf documents linked to the agenda. These documents are very important top level requirements and specifications driving the entire ALMA system design. The calibration documents are available in a draft form. Comments of the review panel are very much welcome, but the draft status of the calibration plan should be taken into account. This means that the review panel shall define how to handle the calibration issue during that review. System Engineering SE documents are available on ALMAEDM at /IPTs /SystemEngineering /Documentation . This is rev C, document 80.04.00.00-002-C, dated 2004-01-30. The main changes from the previous version include re-wording of the discussion of WVRs in sections 3.1.1.2 and 3.3.4, and slight changes to the phase stability requirements in Table 4B as a result of using the latest estimates of phase switching residuals (LAMA memo 803) and of WVR residuals. (The instrumental jitter limit becomes 75 fsec rather than 83 fsec, and the drift limit becomes 25 fsec rather than 28 fsec. These changes are too small to be of practical significance, but they allow us to maintain consistency and traceability.) In addition, some minor wording improvements have been inserted and a few typos have been corrected. The (draft) "System-Level Technical Requirements" document has also been revised to be consistent with the above. It is now rev B, and is in the same folder on ALMAEDM as document 80.04.00.00-004-B. These documents should give an overview about the ALMA system design and need to checked regarding consistency with the science documents and the sub-system specifications and design documents. Antenna Request for Proposal documents are in almaedm at: http://tinyurl.com/2se6g The Specification document is most critical for Science. http://tinyurl.com/2hg3s These documents are applicable to the ALMA production antenna and provide also information about the antenna top level design. A detailed design for the ALMA antenna does not exist today. Only the antenna prototype detailed designs exist. Front End Front End specifications are most important for ASAC examination. http://tinyurl.com/2nl7d Back End The Back End top level design description is included in the Back End specification. It is important to check the Back End design and its consistence with system specification and design. ALMA IF Processing and Transmission Design http://tinyurl.com/26agw Local Oscillator The local oscillator is regarded as critical for the ALMA performance. The design shall be carefully reviewed and assessed. Overview at ALMA LO Reference and Timing Subsystem Design http://tinyurl.com/2vsy4 Correlator The correlator documentation is based on the correlator CDR documentation. Some of the documents were updated. We have added a document about the tunable filter. The tunable filter should receive most attention as a ALMA project decision is needed on this option. The Change Request is at: http://tinyurl.com/2346j Computing Of most relevance to the ASAC is probably the ALMA Software Science Requirements and Use Cases http://tinyurl.com/3cwe5
