Dear Al, Here are some items for Thursday's telecon: - minutes last meeting - update on three-way project; final AMAC report, if available? - ASAC guidelines for future/enhanced correlator workshop (circulated by Rafael) - report ACA tiger team + ACA science examples (can you put the examples below on the Web with the agenda?) - report operations working group; statement of work; input SSR? - report Band 10 working group - Science day Santiago: draft program (to follow), press material - Chile logistics - Chile ASAC draft agenda (see below) - upcoming SSR Berkeley meeting (any documents we should read?) - draft DSB/2SB recommendation (to follow) I also enclose some minor corrections to the minutes below. Can you put the document sent to the E-ACC about the science cases for bands 1, 4 and 10 and enhanced/future correlator on the Web? Please add a note that "Figures for Band 8 and correlator science case have to be added back in." Finally, can you make sure to put Peter Schilke on the ASAC distribution list? He will temporarily replace Karl on the ASAC (subject to approval from ECC/ACC). His e-mail address is: schilke@mpifr-bonn.mpg.de. With best wishes, Ewine ****************************************************************** Corrections to minutes: - par. 1: DSB..... will be completed in the next month (rather than week) - EACC meeting, par.2, last line: ... fiscal year 2003. - Chile WG, last sentence: In this model, maintaining independent stakeholder.. - ACA tiger team: add Min Yun, kawabe, Hasegawa - Band 10: add Yamamoto, Matsuo, Tatematsu - ASAC operations: add Fukui, Sakamoto M. Gurwell - ASAC SOC Chile science day: R. Bachiller has been added and is now the coordinator. Note spelling van Dishoeck. *********************************************************** Science examples ACA ===================== Start with the extensive list prepared by the Japanese and sent by Hasegawa-san to ASAC a few weeks. Input from other ASAC members was on protostellar envelopes, debris disks and nearby galaxies. Select 3-4 examples to highlight: Example 1: Extended protostellar envelopes --- How accurate can ALMA images reproduce its radial profile? Can we distinguish between collapse model X and Y (e.g. Shu-type collapse vs. other collapse model)? Example 2: Multiple dense cores in a GMC at a distance of LMC --- How accurate can an ALMA image reproduce the extended diffuse component and the mass function of the cores embedded therein? Example 3: Face-on disk galaxies at small to intermediate distances --- How accurate can ALMA images reproduce the extended disk component and the brightness of the arms and the interarm regions? Example 4: Debris disk, e.g. Epsilon Eridani-type objects: How well can ALMA image the structure in such disks? The main question is how to translate these science examples into test models for the ACA. There are several useful examples in the literature such as the HL Tau environment (Welch et al. 2000, ApJ 540, 363) and the BIMA-SONG/OVRO/Nobeyama data on nearby galaxies, but those probably have to be translated into examples with higher dynamic range. Several people (Lee Mundy, Michiel Hogerheijde, ...) have offered to help. ASAC suggestions are welcome. ****************************************************************** Items for agenda for Chile ASAC meeting ======================================= - project updates; three-way partnership; representation project in Chile - site issues (I suggest we start with this item since it will be fresh in our minds; any presentation can be very brief, only meant to summarize issues for those who did not visit the site. Needs to be followed by discussion) - ACA simulations and science case - Band 10 science case, plus recapitulation of Bands 1, 4 and 8, and enhanced/future correlator science cases - Prioritization of enhancements (need to get this done on first day so we can reflect overnight) - software: status of all on-line and off-line aspects and SSR requirements; report of Berkeley meeting, report on data reduction -> AIPS++ - calibration issues - operations - receivers: status various prototype developments, related ASAC issues, progress report on plans for mass production - report of correlator working-group meeting - report on prototype antennae; status ASTE and APEX projects
