The Moon at 90 GHz

This shows a false-colour 3-mm image of the Moon, observed with the NRAO 12 Meter Telescope. At these wavelengths, the emission from the Moon is entirely thermal, corresponding to the temperature just below the surface. Because of the thermal inertia of the lunar material, the temperatures observed at these wavelengths lag somewhat behind the optical phase of the Moon.
