ALMA weather station network

In September 2015, ALMA has deployed 6 weather stations in addition to two central stations in order to assess their use in improving antenna position measurements in large configurations. Below is a movie showing the differential barometric pressure and winds during a 19-day period in late October 2015. A logarithmic polar plot is employed in order to compress the distances involved. The azimuthal tick marks are spaced by 1 km. Large mountain features are denoted by grey ellipses. The effective daytime periods (9AM-9PM) are distinguished with a pale yellow background. Data from the APEX and ASTE telescope stations are also included.
