ALMA - Tom Leher

The loveliest girl in Vienna
Was Alma, the smartest as well.
Once you picked her up on your antenna,
You'd never be free of her spell.

Her lovers were many and varied
From the day she began her - beguine.
There were three famous ones whom she married,
And God knows how many between.

Alma, tell us,
All modern women are jealous,
Which of your magical wands
Got you euros and dollars and yens?

The rest.

News -- Wootten

Any comments on the IRMA document?? It will appear in Intl Journal MM Waves. A copy is at my site. This will probably be presented at the Calibration Meeting.

Bob tells me I need to go to the ALMA Management Advisory Committee meeting 8 June. This makes it hard to be at the AAS meeting in Pasadena. Any volunteers to man the ALMA booth? Abstract deadline tomorrow. The lucky one gets to wear my ruby slippers.

See new memos 355, 357, 358.

ALMA Conference Proceedings and onward...

Volume No. 235. I'm steaming ahead on this...expect it to be out sort of Junish, but there are 18 volumes ahead of us. Please review the Preface. Comments??

The synergies of ALMA with the GSMT Conference will be in DC the first part of May. The one day workshop has the goals of (1) delineating potentential synergies between ALMA and a 30-m O/IR telescope (the Giant Segmented Mirror Telescope, GSMT, described in the decadal survey); (2) defining issues for more detailed studies aimed at deeper understanding/quantification of those synergies; and (3) planning a broader community-based workshop to be held in winter, 2001. The workshop will be small (fewer than 15 invitees), informal and focussed on defining next steps rather than reaching definitive conclusions. Participants will summarize from her/his perspective a key science problem for which joint GSMT and ALMA observations would significantly enhance solution. Specifically, we would like to summarize:

  • -- the goals of the science programs (broadly stated)
  • -- key objectives
  • -- key measurements: with ALMA; GSMT
  • -- potential complementarity with NGST; SIM; other space facilities
  • -- identification of ALMA/GSMT synergy
  • -- issues for discussion or study

    Site

Marc Sarazin has examined some of microclimatic events from the CBI logs--the ones in December. Looks like pure bad weather to me. Did anyone send him the May dates?? Do we want IRMA at Chajnantor????

  • By examining the site data retrospectively, can we find a signature for these events?
  • Try to predict events since Steve's.
  • Look carefully at 225 GHz sit and stare (was it working?) during those events.
  • What else?
