3C31 = B0104+321

• FR I (plumed) radio galaxy at z=0.0169 (51/h Mpc, H = 100h km/s/Mpc)
• Large-scale arcs in jets before they bend
• Rapidly expanding, then recollimating, jet and counterjet
• Northern jet base is bright
• Gaps between both jets and nuclear source
• Evidence for rapid slowdown of bulk relativistic outflow
• VLA 8 GHz data at 0.3 arcsec resolution
