STRAWMAN Agenda for ALMA Scientific Advisory Committee

Meeting instructions are here. We have reserved for this meeting the "Sala Bargello" of the "Convitto della Calza" , Piazza della Calza 6, close to the Porta Romana on the south-western corner of the Florence city walls. This is within walking distance of the Florence city center and all the tourist attractions. A Map is available. It shows the hotels (Ann for Annalena etc) as well as the Convitto della Calza (Calza). The roads all run in to the Porta Romana square - the Convitto is on the extension of Via di Seragli called Piazza della Calza just inside the Porta Romana (ie on the city side). There are plenty of bars around for those who dont make it. Webcams are available. Firenze, 23-24 February, 2001

A partial list of things to read before the meeting

    Calibration:

Stephane's recent memo on calibration is available.

Documents previously distributed: A key reference is the Calibration White Paper . In March 2000, the ASAC called for a calibration plan. Toward that end, two memos were been written:

See Plambeck's memo and Mangum's memo . Some of these issues were discussed in September and covered in the ASAC report.

    ALG Issues:

NEW Morita's work and Yun's work on the ACA are available in draft form.

Please read the document from the January 2001 ALG meeting distributed by Brown for the 19 January 2001 ASAC Teleconference.

    Documents from previous meetings:

Refer to Plan for an Enhanced ALMA .

See also Stephane's comments on the ACA and also Morita's work , Al's summary of June 12.and Jack Welch's Choices of Antenna Size and Number for the Atacama Compact Array.

The latter document has been revised, and a draft is available as Specifications for the ALMA Front End Assembly. The document referred to first above is the final version adopted.

    Water Vapor Radiometry

Documents from previous meetings: The Cambridge and Onsala groups have proposed the next generation of 183 GHz Line Monitors (PS) and 183 GHz Line Monitors (MSWord).

    Correlator

New 4bit correlation modes can be incorporated into the baseline correlator.

Documents from previous meetings: Primary reference is the ALMA Construction Project Book chapter on the Correlator ALMA Construction Project Book chapter on the Correlator. See Cost reduction in FX correlator for enhanced ALMA and sensitivity consideration for recent ideas on one alternative. High Performace FX Correlator System for ALMA. Of interest also is the WIDAR Correlator proposed for the EVLA and a suggestion of its use for ALMA by Peter Dewdney and Brett Carlson.

    Polarization

NEW Please read documents from Johan Hamaker:
