Each Polycom microphone pod contains three microphones, one on each long face of the pod. The two-pod system installed in most NRAO conference rooms will switch to whichever of the six microphones provides the strongest continuing audio. Good microphone placement can contribute as much to successful video conferencing as good camera placement, and extra care may be needed if a meeting uses a projector with a noisy fan or if other steady noise sources, such as air conditioning outlets, are present.
