Example Speed Dial Menu
For most NRAO internal video conferences, the quickest way to connect is
to dial the site(s) via the Speed Dial Menu (see above) as follows:
Pick up the remote control for the Polycom ViewStation system, then:
- If the Speed Dial Menu is already displayed, go to step 5, else
- Press
on the remote control
until the Polycom Top Menu appears on the TV monitor
- Highlight the Address Book icon
with the
button
- SELECT with the
button
- The Speed Dial Menu (example above) should be displayed
- Choose which site to dial by number (1 through 6) or with ARROW buttons, e.g.
- CV-conf, GB-conf, SO-conf, TU-conf
for point-to-point call
- NRAO-hub for multi-site call
- SELECT with the
button
If the connection that you need is not currently shown in
your system's Speed Dial Menu, then:
- Highlight the Address Book icon
below the Speed Dial Menu
- Press
SELECT
- The Address Book Menu (shown below) should appear.
- Step through this menu until you find the site or
site combination that you need,
- Press
SELECT on the remote.
Example Address Book Menu
Note that only
the first seven entries in the Address Book are shown in the initial display;
more will appear as you move down the list with the
button.
Address Book entries can also be accessed by pushing the letter
on the remote control numeric dial pad that corresponds to the first letter of
an address you wish to dial, e.g. "N" for NRAO-hub, "S" for SO-conf, etc.
If the connection that you need is not in the Address Book, you
can dial it manually (or enter it into your site's Address
Book and then dial it, but this is not particularly easy to do,
so you should ask your site's video technical contact to do it for you).
To dial a number manually, first press
on the ViewStation remote control
until you reach the Polycom Top Menu (see below) on the TV monitor, then:
Polycom Top Menu
- Use the ARROW keys on the ViewStation remote control
to highlight the Video Call icon (top center of this menu),
- Press
SELECT to obtain the Video Call screen
- Use the numeric keypad to enter the numbers that you want to dial
- If in Charlottesville, check that the type of call is set to IP;
if it is set to ISDN, move the highlight to this field with the ARROW keys and
set it to IP
- Check that the speed is set to 512 (kbps); if it is not, use the ARROW keys
to highlight this field, then set it to 512
- Place the call using the
CALL·HANG-UP button.
Whichever connection method is used, the TV monitor will show the number dialed,
type of call (IP/ISDN) and connection speed while the connection is being established.
