NRAO System Admin Meeting: CV Overview
Software
- Solaris systems:
- "Dataless" clients mostly;
/usr served
from sirius
- Central
/opt/local/ also from sirius (=
/usr/local on most systems)
- Common
/opt/local/share/ with other architectures
- Currently almost all Solaris 2.6 (one 2.7 system); going to
2.8 soon.
- Linux systems:
- All mostly standalone; kickstart being deployed for
upgrades, etc.
- Central
/opt/local/ from sirius (=
/usr/local on most systems)
- Common
/opt/local/share/ with other architectures
- Mostly at Red Hat 6.2; a few 6.1 and 6.0 stragglers
- Dedicated boxes locked down tight.
- AIPS:
- Home of AIPS is on kochab (moving to valen soon)
- Distributed via "midnight job" to 20+ primary sites (all 4
NRAO sites, plus many external); and at least 12 secondary
sites (feeding from primary). Technology:
ssh.
- Public machines (AIPS Caige etc.) offer 100-200 GB user space
and 15+ tape drives of many flavors.

- Home of
www.nrao.edu ,
www.cv.nrao.edu , www.aui.edu .
- New server (Dell PowerEdge) delivered: 90GB hardware Raid-5
hot-swap disk, 256 MB memory, dual processor P-III 600. To be
deployed in coming months, to support first two (AUI has its
own machine).
